I'm planting trees with my site. The Dwemer, or 'Deep Elves' or 'Deep Folk' and referred to as dwarves by humanswere a powerful race of elves who build elaborate underground cities and strongholds, but for reasons unknown they disappeared from the world.

The Dwemer were technologically advanced far beyond what other races were capable of during their time, and many of their creations have survived in working condition to this day. Unfortunately not many names were available in the Elder Scrolls Lore.

So for this generator I had to make up some naming rules, which I think fit with the existing names. Dwemer names tend to sound rough and can be hard to pronounce, with lots of consonants. There's even 1 name with no vowels at all, 'Nbthld'. However, there are also names which are easier to pronounce, like 'Gharen', 'Dhark', and 'Dumac'. This generator will have combinations of both types of names.

To start, simply click on the button to generate 10 random names. Don't like the names? Simply click again to get 10 new random names. Eventually this will become the best list of free fantasy cartography resources for my clients to make sketches and anyone searching for a free map for their tabletop game campaign. Someone could use this to create a zoomed out world map or country base. Clicking on a text label or generated icon will allow you to move it freely and change its options.

An exceptionally powerful mapping tool which uses 3D to do both overhead and isometric views. I created this map in mere minutes and was impressed by the potential.

I might use this! Mewo2 Map Editor. The procedural process of building the map might work well for some. I found it easy and enjoyable to move through. However, names are limited to automatically generated place names. It is Open Source. I took a look at it in Text Wrangler and it looks easy enough to expand the names it generates, and due to how the images are added in, it seems simple enough to change what textures and image assets are pulled.

However, what looks much more complicated would be changing say, how the coastlines are generated. For someone with Python knowledge this could be the godsend fantasy map generator of your dreams, though.

Ripe and ready to be picked apart and coded into your own personal fantasy map making tool. I admit I really do want to put some of my own textures and trees in and see what happens.

Have fun. It is now possible to edit text, though you cannot position it it is randomized by seed and a warp tool. I find it a great idea generator. New features are being added regularly and this is an excellent way to get a sense of what shape you might like your city to be.

It is very easy to use, just click and it will add in a random new city block. No updates have been made since I added it to the list, so it remains more of a fun novelty than an exceptionally useful mapping tool. While notable for its random generation instant map creation, it allows for enough customization that someone might be able to find it useful for a game. Easily the least artistic addition to this list is RPG City Generatora vintage text-based map generator which will form an acsii map which corresponds to a code to understand what region of the city is being represented.I like it.

I'll keep this approach in mind for the inevitable exploration of ruined ancient cities in my current game. I previously wrote about devising some experimental procedures for generating a dwarven undercity. As I explained, I have a friend who plans to write an undercity generator, and I'm helping him a little by thinking about the procedures. I wanted to test my suggestions to see how well they did at generating a usable map. My initial ideas worked pretty well, although I developed some modifications while using them, and realized at least one more after I finished.

Since the procedures are intended to generate paths as you explore, I didn't want to just start in a corner, fill in a row, hit the carriage return, and repeat. Instead, I started at the entrance and followed a path.

Actually I followed two paths, because I did this twice to see how different the layouts might look. The first time, I always went to the left-most unexplored hex; the second time, I went to the right-most unexplored hex. I think I rolled more 2s on the left-hand path and more 3s on the right-hand, so if you wanted to use these maps, I would flip coins for each of the passages, and whichever comes up more heads or tailsI would give the left-hand map more "neighborhoods" and the right-hand map more "passages".

The "passageway" hexes are the ones with small squares and little tunnels branching off them. The things that look like amoebas are "caverns". The larger squares with terrible maze-diagrams are "maze" hexes. I imagine these will be unusual, but not unique, terrain like parks, gardens, lakes, perhaps particular districts within the city.

I drew these as fortresses because again, a c'mon, and b the question mark aesthetics thingy.

Openpyxl pivot table

If the hex has no blocked sides, it gets 1d4 exits in addition to the entrance you just drew. If it has any blocked sides, it gets 1d4 exits in total.

Phasor estimation using dft

Hexes on the edge of the map all have at least one blocked side by default. Place the exits at random from among the available sides, and consider any side that doesn't have an exit to be blocked. I found it helpful to draw in the blocked sides to remind myself not to draw a new connection there in the future.

When randomly placing the exits, you should never need to roll more than twice - either roll once or twice to determine which sides get exits, or roll once or twice to determine which sides don't get them. Earlier I wrote what turned out to be some complicated and unwieldy ideas about comparing the number of exits you just rolled to the available sides and using that to determine secret passageways and temporary blockages and etc If the number you just rolled is higher than the number of unblocked sides, then all remaining sides get exits.

If the number you rolled is lower than the number of pre-existing routes into the hex, then just block the remaining sides off. Trying to use the normal path generator to make special passages was a mistake; those should be features that get determined by a separate table. I also had some ideas about generating significant sites within each hex.

I will say that I think it will probably be easiest to roll a d20 on a menu showing possible site locations within the hex. Rolling d4 to determine the number of sites, and then rolling d- something several times to randomly place them gets a little tedious. The question of whether or not this is the correct size map would also require introspection to answer. The file you opened has some invalid characters.

If you continue editing this file you could corrupt this document. You can also choose another character encoding and try again. Other than that, this is a pretty shiny NPC generator, but one fighter, human, female was years old, and in parentheses middle aged! Thanks for the feedback — I should be able to fix the issue with the output immediately it sounds like a name on my list has non-ascii characters. The age issue will take a little longer to hunt down, but knowing this is happening helps me greatly.

Yet it works fine on my Windows 10 la[top. What gives? Also, everything happens server-side, so your OS should not matter. It might be a oversensitive firewall issue on your Windows 7 machine, but I will double check things on my end.

Wow this is phenomenal. There seems to be nothing as extensive like this out there. This NPC generator is saving me so much time so I can keep my campaign going. Please note that there is no logic in the script to avoid contradictory personality traits; either think of a reason for the contradiction or pick-and-choose traits.

If you need all your paladins to be human, either leave these drop-downs alone or specify both class and race.

It is possible to have malformed results if you choose some combinations of class, race, and level not permitted in the 1e rules e. In other words, it is quite possible that there are systematic errors that only arise under very specific circumstances.

I may not have encountered or noticed these errors and would appreciate a quick note if you notice such things. Thanks for posting this! Include classes from Unearthed Arcana, at least the Barbarian.
